Session outline/ plan:

As a postdoc you’ve lots of career options but working out the detail of your next career steps can feel unclear. You’ve got lots of skills but how do you figure out which of these skills you want to use and develop in your career? What skills do employers value? Where would you like your career to take you? All of this can seem overwhelming but you can use the Prosper portal to make this more do-able.

In this practical session we’ll take you through;

  • A brief overview of Prosper
  • A tour of what’s on offer in the portal
  • A walk-through of the career development navigator
  • Time to try it out for yourself
  • Q&A

This session is for postdocs looking to develop in their career, whether in academia or beyond. Whilst this session is designed for postdocs the portal (and functionality/resources available) can be used by PGRs.

There is also a section of the Prosper portal dedicated to Managers of Researchers, who are also welcome to attend this session.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Gain an insight into what resources are available to you in the Prosper portal
  • Get started using the practical career development navigator tool to kick-start your own career development
  • Set your next career development goal or action

Presenter information:

Dr Fiona McBride (she/her), Senior researcher developer.

Dr Fiona McBride has worked as part of team developing Prosper for the past 4 years. Before that she was a postdoc for a bit over 7 years in total.
